Storytelling humble beauty in life.

Let’s face it. Our society is more convenient and efficient than ever before, but haven’t we lost a lot of good intentions along the way? Forgetting to take a deep breath, have a moment, and think about what matters in our life and society? That’s exactly why we are here today.

-ism. is a Paris-Tokyo based project, founded by Yuka Takahashi and Louis Ansa, storytelling small life poetries inspired by artisanal living, to let us see the humble beauty in life again.

So here we are, inviting you to the series of little life stories of artisans, guiding you to rediscover humble beauty in life again.

Their life as a whole, from crafts to living space, was like beautiful living poetries.

Just two years ago, we were young career-driven Art Director and Strategic Planner, working a hell out of our lives and constantly moving across the world’s big cities. We were exhausted, stressed, and not getting any closer to the happiness we wanted. We were clearly missing something but didn’t know what.

During this stressful period of our life, we went out for trips in Japan and encountered with beautiful Japanese artisans. In small ateliers hidden from busy streets, they were secretly curving out modest yet the most thoughtful objects.

Their life intentionally taking cared of, in a space with minded objects, by a self with rich yet selected focus, at human-scaled work they love. Their life as a whole, from crafts to living space, was like beautiful living poetries.

We got so inspired that we decided to re-create the same experience online, storytelling their genuine life stories through sincerely made craft. In doing so, it allows anyone who thinks the same way we did, to feel empowered and focus on simple things that truly matter to them. So here we are, inviting you to the series of little life stories of artisans, guiding you to rediscover humble beauty in life again.

Shipping information

  • Artisanal price

We purchase crafts directly from our artisans with their set price and immediately pay them even before items are sold online. Because we don’t believe in the market norm of “pay as it’s sold” style, and we would like to support their artisanal life.

  • Product on demand

We only order items from artisans when they are out of stock. Because we believe their time and the material put into the craft-making are so precious, we don't want to waste any of these things.

  • Recycled packaging

We are trying to reduce waste as much as possible for packaging. Which means we use recycled wrapping papers and no fancy boxes in our shipping carton. Of course, it's for the environment, but also, we believe each piece is already beautiful as is with the artisanal spirits reflected in the crafts.

During our stay in Kyoto, we met artisans working at 20 square meter ateliers hidden in tiny streets - curving out humble yet the most philosophically rich crafts at their isolated, beautiful bubbles. Inspired by the trip, we created this collection filled with their personal life stories, inviting you to feel and live in their small yet beautiful universe.
